Putting
aside the functional requirements of furniture, Andrew has been exploring the expressive possibilities of an ancient
woodworking technique: intarsia wood inlays. "I work with solid wood, not veneer, to construct the patterns which
I inset into wood panels. Some inlays are saturated with water to swell them prior to insetting them into their board. Upon
drying the inlays shrink and crack causing a new layer of pattern to distort the geometry of the inlay. The majority of hangings
are not treated with stains or varnish; raw wood is left to developed a patina over time. I seek unique patterns and structures
which have an inherent logic and beauty." - Andrew McAleese
